This beautiful home was designed by, well-known Hilton Head Architect, Neil Gordon for Hester and Bob Hodde. Bob has been coming to Hilton Head since 1961 since his family visited from Summit, NJ to vacation in Sea Pines. They bought property in Sea Pines that same year. While in high school and college Bob worked for Sea Pines Company during the summers and became enthusiastic about the real estate business while working for Charles Fraser and Sea Pines Real Estate in his college years. For more than 40 years, Bob has watched the island grow and mature into the wonderful resort destination it is today. Homes and real estate are Bob’s passion and that shows in the meticulous design and architectural details of this home. Bob, along with interior designer, Liz MacLeod, oversaw every element that was chosen for the house and wanted it to reflect the best of what the market wants today – a home that is spacious but liveable, elegant but functional, and view-oriented with privacy.
Hester came to Hilton Head from Charlotte, NC after marrying Bob in 1983. She works for Outside Hilton Head’s Destination Management division and assists Bob in his real estate business. Hester says the home’s flexibility is one of its greatest features. She likes to entertain family and friends – in groups large and small. The kitchen is fabulous for cooking a dinner for six or for a caterer to a serve a cocktail party for 80. All the rooms downstairs have great flow with multiple doors out to the porch and view. She loves the excellent separation of spaces that allows for the house to be extremely liveable – whether there are two people in residence or twelve! When it’s only Hester and Bob, the house lives like a one-story home with everything they need and use close by. When all the bedrooms are full upstairs, everyone enjoys privacy in their separate bedroom and living spaces. It is a fantastic house for raising a family or for entertaining guests.
But if you ask Hester what her favorite aspect of this house is, she will say that, even though the house itself is terrific, it’s the setting and view that are the most incredible part of living there. The sunsets and changing weather, the marsh grass colors and the boats going by, the sunlight reflecting off the water and the abundant wildlife are spectacular to watch. She says she “doesn’t take it for granted for one minute!” Courtesy Hodde Real Estate
